CHAI Lab’s Agent Personality Playground gives students a way to explore how personality changes an AI interaction. The activity connects Vibe Check with everyday design choices.

Try a small comparison

  1. Choose a context, such as planning, customer support, or wellness.
  2. Write one request and try it with different personality settings in the research playground.
  3. Compare the replies: what changed in warmth, clarity, usefulness, or perceived trust?
  4. Repeat the request in another context. Discuss whether the same personality still feels appropriate.

Discuss the design choices

Ask who should choose an agent’s personality, how users can understand those choices, and when an appealing tone might become influence. Treat students’ observations as discussion material, rather than evidence that one personality suits every person or task.
